Donald Trump Fires Miss California USA

Los Angeles (AP) – Miss California USA Carrie Prejean, who stirred up a hornet’s nest of controversy when she expressed her opinion that gays shouldn’t be allowed to marry, got the word from pageant poobah Donald Trump on Wednesday: "You’re fired."

Carrie Prejean Trump and other pageant leaders said Prejean was being sacked not because of her controversial remarks but because she hadn’t been holding up her end of the agreement she signed when she entered the pageant.

"This was a decision based solely on contract violations, including Ms. Prejean’s unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization," the California pageant’s executive director, Keith Lewis, said in a statement.

Lewis had complained at a news conference last month that Prejean was skipping Miss California USA events while speaking out against gay marriage at unsanctioned appearances.

There are two sides to every story though?

English language gets its one millionth word

1000000
The English language, which has more words than any other language in the history of the world, today added its one millionth word or phrase, according to the site Global Language Monitor. Several phrases were in the running, including “Jai Ho,” “Slumdog,” (terms popularized by the Oscar-winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire) and “N00b,” a derogatory name for an amateur video-game player.

But the winner was “Web 2.0,” a phrase usually applied to social networking sites such as Facebook, and Twitter. (The Global Language Monitor, somewhat stiffly, calls “[Web 2.0] a technical term meaning the next generation of World Wide Web products and services. It has crossed from technical jargon into far wider circulation in the last six months.”) Since 2008, the Global Language Monitor, which is based in Texas, has been counting down its “Million Word March.”

According to the site, a new English word or phrase is created about every 98 minutes, for an average of…

[Not to be picky but wouldn’t “Web 2.0” be the 1,000,000 & 1,000,001?]

imageBOSTON–Microsoft Corp (MSFT: 22.55, n.a., n.a.%) is getting ready to unveil a long-anticipated free anti-virus service for PCs that will compete with products sold by Symantec Corp (SYMC: 16.45, n.a., n.a.%) and McAfee Inc.

A Microsoft spokesman said Wednesday that the world’s biggest software maker is testing an early version of the product with its own employees. Microsoft would "soon" make a trial version, or product beta, available via its Web site, he added, but declined to provide a specific date.

Symantec shares fell 1.6% in afternoon trading and McAfee fell 1.8%, while Microsoft was…

Vending Machines Too Weird to Be Fake

by Leila Brillson

TechEBlog got our stomachs oddly rumbling with their grossly delicious looking posts about three wacky vending machines, such as fresh pizza made to order, a Wi-Fi enabled Coca-Cola machine with a touch-screen and a coffee machine with a built-in camera. We’ve all heard the rumors about Japanese used underwear dispensers, so we know that, if you can sell it, you can also vend it.

Maybe just as weird as a used-panties dispenser is this Japanese lobster-grab game. It’s not a vending machine, per se, but with it a hungry hunter can use a claw to pick a lobster. And, if you win…

Work at home…have you tried one from the NET?

Posted in Day to Day with tags , , , , on 2009/06/06 by Ron

Kim Komando has some interesting info on working from home with the internet.

I was just wondering if you have tried any of these ideas.  The only one I know of personally is writing columns for print and digital media and it makes money but not much.  If I could syndicate then it could be good, but with only a few; well let’s just say my wife and I make enough extra $$ to go to McDonald’s once or twice a month.

Visit Kim's Site...

Of course she looks a lot better than I do and is syndicated all over the place.  Hey Kim, do you need a cheap assistant?

I’m old have have much wisdom.

You should check out my latest article on Netflix.  It may introduce you to something new or maybe something you already knew about but had forgotten to try out.

Go take a look and let me know what you think about it.

Bada-Bing would have been a better word

Posted in Day to Day on 2009/06/05 by Ron

Well MS is back in the search engine business with Bing.com

bing.com

It has some good stuff especially the hover feature.  try hovering over a picture, video or even the right edge of a link area and see what it does.  According to Leo Laporte, 1% of the search market is worth about 1 Billion bucks.

Now I need to build one that just gets about .0001% of the market and I can retire!

IMHO it is good with neat features but it won’t replace Google anytime soon.  But with that much $$ I don’t think they will lose sleep over it.  Last reports said that the old MS, Live Search had 13% of the market already.

UPDATE:

Did Bing just leap frog Yahoo search?!
